Building Regulations

If you write to your local Building Control Service it will give written confirmation if work is exempt, and you should keep this. No fee will be charged. If building regulations do apply, you will receive written confirmation of compliance when the work has been finished and inspected. Again, keep this documentation safe.

Planning Permission

Keep all correspondence regarding planning permission in case you ever need to prove that it was granted and whether or not there were conditions attached. A phone call will often establish that planning permission is not required. If you want a record of this, you can obtain, for a fee, a lawful development certificate.
