Food Shopping and Preparation

Check Your Routine

It's a good idea to examine your food-shopping routine. Most of us shop on the run, making an average of three 30-minute supermarket dashes each week. Think about using local shops to top up rather than driving to a supermarket every time. Reduced toll on your nerves and time makes up for smaller choice and higher prices. Or order via the Internet, and have the goods delivered.

Organise Your Shopping

Divide shopping lists into sections according to the layout of stores, such as fresh produce, refrigerated goods, and the rest. Pack the bags at the till bearing in mind where things will be put at home.

Buy in Bulk

Bulk-buy staple dry goods such as pasta, rice, noodles.

Cook in Bulk

If you're planning to cook something versatile like bolognese sauce or ratatouille, buy and cook double the amount and freeze the extra portion.

Keep on Top of Things

Put used dishes and utensils straight into the dishwasher.
