Your Buying Rights

Your Buying Rights

We all want a good deal when we buy goods and services and we need to know that we will be treated fairly if there is a problem. While home shopping and Internet shopping have made browsing and buying much more convenient in some respects, it isn't always easy to know who is actually supplying your purchases. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) runs a comprehensive web site with consumer rights advice and also runs a telephone service giving information about where to go for help if you have a problem.

In this section we've put together a guide to your buying rights, and how you can complain if things go wrong. There's also a look at the issues of your security and privacy when shopping at home and advice on buying products from abroad.
